Painting the Orange Iceland Poppy

The orange poppy is just about complete, with dew drops and all!  The dew drops were time consuming but well worth the time.  I will detail a little bit more but not until I have the painting near completion.  For the orange poppy I used quinacridone gold and permanent rose.
Now for the upper half of the painting, thinking about the background, I think I would like to frisket over the flowers and stems and create a beautiful blue sky, my advisor Guy says this would really work well for this setting.  The reference photo has brick work and lawn, too much detail, think I will listen to Guy on this one.

  1. Hi Joyce, the orange poppy looks fantastic and I agree about the dewdrops. They fit perfect in this painting.
I too was wondering what you would do with a background. A blue sky will give the perfect contrast- I agree with Guy.
I am looking forward to see your next step.

Thank you all is well here. It is a stressful time right now, because my son will have his first holy communion this weekend and we will have the house full of guests and I must cook and bake and so on.
But i hope to get a minute to see if you have posted something new.
I too was wondering if all is fine with you, since you have not posted very much.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  6. Hi Joyce...the painting is looking fabulous. Guess we were all wondering about that background and I think the blue will be perfect. Those poppies should be in my garden!! Have you ever painted the peony poppies that look like a ruffled ball? Would love to see your take on them.

  7. Hi Mollie! Have not had an opportunity to paint the peony poppies, have thought it would be a fun floral to paint. I'll look around to see if I can find them to photograph, for a future painting. I want to start adding florals to my workshop lessons, I think this would lead to more workshops.
